Cancer Research Wales and Rhiwbina RFC have teamed up to launch their first annual raffle on Sunday 2 September at Caedelyn Park in Cardiff.
This new joint venture will help raise vital funds for the causes of both organisations. As well as raising money for Cancer Research in Wales, the raffle will also support community rugby for all ages and levels in North Cardiff.
On this new partnership, Anna-Marie Jones from Cancer Research Wales said:
“We are excited to work with Rhiwbina RFC to raise funds for both these important causes”.
“Cancer now affects approximately 130,000 people in Wales and is likely to increase to 230,000 by 2030. It is therefore important to us that all funds raised by Cancer Research Wales are spent here. This is particularly important for research into prevention, early diagnosis and better treatments for cancer patients.”
Although Rhiwbina RFC has organised successful annual raffles in the past, this year will be the first time the club has partnered up with a local charity. Last year the club’s raffle raised an incredible £4,000.
Richard Price of Rhiwbina RFC said:
“Past raffles have been such a success that we saw the opportunity to benefit a local charity, as well as the club. The work that Cancer Research Wales is doing, just down the road from us in Whitchurch, is important to so many lives that we were keen to do our bit to support them.”
This year’s raffle shows true community spirit, as many local businesses have donated prizes to the raffle. These include 2 Tickets from WRU for the Wales V Ireland Match, 6 Nations 2019. Crystal Creative donated a 40” Smart TV, whilst the Cardiff Hilton Hotel donated a Meal for six people with four bottles of wine. Local businesses have also supported Rhiwbina RFC in the past, by sponsoring kit and individual teams.
On 2 September over 200 children came together at Caedelyn Park to train together and launch the raffle.
Local Councillors Jayne Cowan and Adrian Robson were also present at Caedelyn Park where they supported the raffle launch together alongside Anna-Marie Jones, community fundraiser for Cancer Research Wales, and Richard Price, Chairman of Rhiwbina Mini & Junior Section (pictured).
The raffle will take place on Saturday, 22nd December 2018 at 7.40pm. To support Cancer Research Wales and Rhiwbina RFC, tickets can now be bought at local Cancer Research Wales shops and from Rhiwbina RFC players, members, parents and supporters.
